Thus Spake Sri Ramakrishna

  • To kill another, sword and shield are needed; whilst to kill oneself even a pin will do. Si teach many scriptures & sciences, while to acquire spiritual. Illumination for oneself firm faith in a single motto will suffice.
  • He who has faith has all; and he who lacks it lacks all.
  • If you are keen on realising God, repeat His name with faith and try to discriminate the Real from the unreal.

Call for Peace

Peace is always present. Get rid of the disturbances to peace. This peace is the self.

– Sri Ramana Maharishi

The ancients who wished to illustrate illustrious virtue throughout the kingdom first ordered well their own states. So, they first regulated their families by cultivating their persons. To achieve this , they rectified their hearts, they sought to be sincere in their thoughts and hence tried first to extend to the utmost their knowledge.

When they investigated things, knowledge became complete, and thoughts became sincere. Their hearts were then rectified, and their persons were cultivated.Hence, families were regulated, their states were rightly governed and the whole kingdom was made tranquil and happy.

– The Great Learning I

The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of men when they realise their relationship, their oneness, and the universe and all its powers, and when they realise that at the centre of the universe dwells Wakan Tanka, and that this centre is really everywhere, it is within each of us.

This is the real peace, and the others are but reflections of this. The second peace is that which is made between two individuals, and the third is that which is made between two nations. But above all you should understand that there can never be peace between nations until there is first known that true peace which, is within the souls of men.

Black Elk

Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances.

Mahatma Gandhi

He who hates no single being, is friendly and compassionate, free from self-regard and vanity, the same in good and evil, patient; contented, ever devout, subdued in soul, firm in purpose, fixed on Me in heart and mind and who worships Me, is dear to Me.

Bhagwad Gita 12:13-14

Whoever has in his heart even so much as a rice grain of pride cannot enter into paradise.

Prophet Muhammed

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Proverbs 11:2

Put away the garment of vainglory and divest yourselves of the attire of haughtiness.

There is delay in throwing  ourselves in all humility and devotion at the Lotus Feet of our Beloved Guru Granth Sahib but there is no delay in Sri Guru Nanak Sahib showering His Grace in saving us.

Baba Nand Singh Ji Maharaj

Humility is fairer in rags than Pride in raiments of gold.

The Tree laden with fruits always bends low. If you wish to be great, be lowly and meek.

Sri Ramakrishna

Humility is not something you can work with. If you do, it will only promote false humility based on same inflated idea of deflation.

Eli Jaxon-Bear

Think It Over

When you think of yesterday without regret and toward tomorrow without fear, you are on the road of success.

-Richard Denny

A strong determination will help us overcome many difficulties. It is easy to drive people. What is hard is to lead them.

Everything can be sacrificed for the Truth, but Truth cannot be sacrificed for anything.

-Swami Vivekananda (The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Volume 5)

Temple of God

The religions are there to unite
all the people in a feeling
of unity of all the Gods.
They give us a feeling
that we are children
of the same Parmatma
and we should live
in harmony and unity
a Bhava or Eikta or oneness.
If that comes out fruitful,
there will be no quarrels
in ihe name of the Gods.
The animosity and hatred
will disappear
and there will be
harmonious living
Sowjanya Bhava and peace will prevail

-Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati

Let God’s grace be the mosque, and devotion the prayer mat.
Let Qur’an be the good conduct.
Let modesty be compassion.
Good manners fasting.
Let good deeds be your Kaaba and truth be your mentor.
Your kalma be your creed and prayer.
God would then vindicate your honour.

-Guru Nanak

I condemn the politicians
in the same way
I condemn
organised religions
they are nothing but politics.

-Osho Rajneesh

So many gods, so many creeds.
So many paths that wind and wind.
While just the art of being kind.
Is all the sad world needs

– Ella Wheeler Wilcox, US poet

There’s no reason
to bring religion into it.
I think we ought to have
as great a regard
for religion as we can.
So as to keep it out
of as many things
as possible.

– Sean O’ Caseey, Irish dramatist

Age is a Quality of Mind

It is not years that make age. Frivolous pursuits, base passions unsubdued, narrow selfishness, vacuity of mind, life with sordid aims or no aims at all – these are the things that bring age upon the soul, healthful tastes an open eye for what is beautiful and good in nature and in man, a happy remembrance of youthful pleasures, a mind never without some active interest or pursuit – these are the things that carry on the feeling of into old age

Theodore Martin

The older the fiddle, sweeter the time.
Old men for counsel, young men for action.
It is nice to grow old, if one keeps young.
Age is a quality of mind

If you have left your dreams behind
If hope is cold
If you no longer look ahead
If the flames of your ambitions are dead
Then you are old.

Longevity is the work of lifetime and there is no shortcut to it but moderation and temperance in everything.

Forty is the old age of youth
Fifty is the youth of old age.

Chehre Pe Chehra

There are seven other individuals in this physical world who resemble with your face, that’s what we hear a lot and there are similar impressions from different cultures and belief systems when they talk about parallel lives. And at Chehre Pe Chehra, most of the times I try to find faces that look alike for the most part of their faces, meaning, at times only eyes and expressions look similar; at other times perhaps the smile or their jaw line looks the same. In any case, you might ask..what’s the point!

Well, a face, to my understanding is not only our identity but also our unique way of expression, may it be natural or made-up. There are some creative people who would choose to make their faces up, to express their individuality for example  some men choose to ornate their faces with different sorts of moustache or beard, put different sorts of hairstyles (or not) and then similar notion goes for women too. With time, Chehre Pe Chehra has become a collection of different popular faces and at the same time a handful interested facebook users enjoy playing this in form of  a game to identify the morphed face between the two different faces; I think this is fantastic and in about 18 months I am glad to serve these users with pleasure. A message with facial expressions, look alikes & a game to play – this together puts a valid point in place.

I can’t thank enough to all the facebook users to visit Chehre Pe Chehra and play this game with same excitement everyday. Thank You.

Life Beyond Physical World

What came first? is an endless debate but what “is” and will remain ? has a unanimous withholding in this world. ‘You are spirit and not this body‘ This phrase has been talked about and written by numerous philosophers around the globe. Did you live this phrase? Do you .. ? looking around ourselves at living and ‘non’ living things have life too. Haven’t you heard another popular phrase – ‘Everything vibrates‘ so every-thing is as alive as you and I. Breathe in through your nose and Breathe out through your mouth – now – as you read this article. . . You just did a small meditation and this is what reminds us about the Life beyond this illusive (mäyic) physical world which vibrates at such a high frequency that we forget this is nothing but Energy in motion that looks-like physical. And everything that ‘looks like’ is not real and will diminish with time. You will go beyond this physical world because you ‘are’ and you ‘will remain’ – Always.

The Core Question

By whom willed and directed does the mind alight on its objects?
By whome commanded does the prana (vital breath), that precedes all.
start? By whom willed do men utter speech?
What intelligent power directs the eye to see, the eyes to hear?

Kenopanishad 1.1

It is the ear of the ear,
It is the mind of the mind
It is the speech of the speech.
It is the breath of the breathing.
It is the eye of the eye…

Kenopanishad 1.2

The teacher proceeds from the known to the unknown…
We all know that we hear with our ears.
But a set of ears on their own are as deaf as a post.
Follow the sound vibrations through the eardrums along the nerves.
It is the brain which is actually ‘hearing’ those vibrations. But that’s not the end of it. If the Consciousness leaves the brain you won’t hear.

Even if that Consciousness simply shifts the focus of your brain for a moment, the ears are still transmitting sounds to it as it ticks away, but you are deafened.

Someone might ask three times if you want sugar in your tea, but all you know is that you forgot to lock the door when you left the office.
Therefore, it is Consciousness which enables you to hear. It is the ‘ear of the ear’ because it is that which makes you conscious of sound.

By the same token. Consciousness is the see-er in the eye,
the mind in the mind, the speaker in speech.
That, says the teacher, is the source of existence, is God (Brahman/ब्रह्मा). So, God is the subject of all you see, hear, smell, touch, taste, feel or understand.

Therefore, God can never be an object of perception or comprehension.

Swami Parthasarathy

Purifying Ourselves

Wise, self-controlled and tranquil souls, who are contented in spirit, and who practice austerity and meditation in solitude and silence, are freed from all impurity, and attain by the path of liberation to the immortal, the truly existing, the changeless Self.

Mundaka Upanishad 1.2.11

The moral man’s life is an empflication of the universal moral order, chung yung, because he is a moral person who unceasingly cultivates his true self or moral being. The life of the vulgar person, on the other hand, is a contradiction of the universal order, because he is a vulgar person who in his heart has no regard for, or fear of, the moral law.

Doctrine of the Mean 3

Because perfect wisdom tames and transforms him, wrath and conceit he does not increase. Neither enmity nor ill-will take hold of him, nor is there even a tendency towards them. He will be mindful and friendly… It is wonderful how this perfection of wisdom has been set up for the control and training of the bodhisattvas.

Perfection of Wisdom

Of all the created things of being of the universe,

it is the two-legged men alone,

who, if they purify and humiliate themselves,

may become one with – or may know,

Black Elk

Not in the heavens, or the underworlds,

Not in the hollow-caves of trackless mountains…

The cave where brahma shines is the heart-cave.

Of Mind which is filled with the Consciousness

You would attain to divine perfection.

And yet not turn your back upon the world.

H W Longfellow
